How you can create balance in your day today?
A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step – Lao Tzu
This is balance awareness week and I am aware that this can be a very challenging and transformational time and how vestibular disorders affect people both physically, mentally and emotionally. The importance of increasing awareness about vestibular disorders is key and to find alternative ways to get back to balance and cohesiveness in our lives!
Do you?
Feel overwhelmed by what is on offer?
Confused as to what to focus on in terms of alternative therapies?
Want to rebalance your life?
Want to feel empowered to live a more full life?
Feel anxious and worried all the time?
And maybe many other things too….
A lot of the questions I ask are similar for all the clients I work with but they all have an overwhelming desire to be happier and flourish in their lives whatever that looks like. Often with vestibular disorders there is anxiety, depression guilt, grief and a struggle to cope with lifestyle changes.
The majority of my work is within a positive psychological framework. This can include the following which I have found to be very helpful for anxiety, balance, depressive symptoms, vertigo and dizziness:
- Mindfulness eg meditation can increase awareness, resilience and create calmness.
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Hypnotherapy – to help change our thoughts, feelings and behavior.
- Energy Psychology – Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) which I will explain in more detail below.
- Plan for the morning which might include journaling, a meditation, positive affirmations and perhaps EFT to get started.
- I use many affirmations and positive statements eg. STOP and techniques to use throughout the day to also challenge thoughts.
- Developing a Growth mindset – learning I have not achieved it yet! Mistakes are awesome!
- Oils – which can be taken with water, inhaled and diffused to ground and focus.
- Community – sharing with honest and authenticity what is happening and how you might overcome this
If we look one modality Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) which works by releasing blockages in the energy system. This might show up as feeling stuck, emotional disturbance which shows up in physical symptoms. We can use tapping in so many ways and for anxiety and pain it can help in the moment and at a much deeper level. With tapping we are sending kinetic energy straight to the brain. Also connecting with amygdale gland helps to calm the body’s reaction to a perceived threat helping to retrain our brain and our response.

I came to see Helen after a difficult break and very confused about what I wanted from life and feeling pretty down. We focused very much on me and I found this to be the first time I had taken that approach. I found the combination of Mindfulness, CBT and EFT amongst other things so helpful together with the behavioural experiments I now feel ready to live my life! And excited about the future. Thank you so much!
